Stress - the Silent Killer

Why is it so important to de-stress?

Unfortunately in our western society, we are trained to think that stress is good for us. This is far from the truth. Stress creates a hostile health environment inside our body, affecting the physiological functioning of every organ, tissue and cell.

When the body is in a state of stress, this will be symptomatic of the fact that the autonomic nervous system is in the 'sympathetic nervous response'. This is the 'fight-flight' or emergency response of the body, which is the natural state for it to go into in times of real emergency.

Unfortunatley, many people are living in a constant state of stress, usually without realizing it. This is highly detremental to our health. Living in a perpetual state of stress over-taxes the delicate internal organs, eventually exhausting them or building up to illness.

How stress creates dis-ease

Scientific evidence has also shown that stress is the leading cause of heart disease.

Also, most people are unaware that a state of stress inside their body disrupts the delicate PH balance (the alkaline - acid balance critical for maintaining good health), creating an over acidic environment.

This acidic environment has many detremental effects such as:

  • Creating teeth cavities
  • Raising cholesterol levels
  • Impairing digestive functioning
  • Causing us to have an 'acid tongue' or 'acid wit'

Stress has numerous negative effects in the body including:

  • Decreasing brain function
  • Depleting cortisol levels
  • Straining the internal organs
  • Over-taxing the heart
  • Restricting good breathing and therefore oxygen levels
  • and much much more

When our body is in s stressed state, all bodily functions alter in order to deal with the 'percieved' or 'real' emergency: heart rate and breathing changes, digestion and elimination stops, the nervous system goes on red alert. This state is designed to be temporay until the state of emergency is over.

However, if the 'stress switch' is constantly 'on' inside the body, meaning the internal bodily functions are altered and compromised, how do you think the body can fulfil its normal bodily functions? The answer is, it can't! Hence, people start to experience digestive problems, nervous tension, physical tension, anxiety and more.

Very importantly, the body cannot carry out routine repairs when it is in a state of stress. Therefore it is critical that we learn how to move our body out of this state as soon as possible. Chronic stress is the foundation for many other diseases, so if you want to avoid becoming ill, learn how to de-stress!

How can Mickel Therapy help you de-stress?

From a Mickel Therapy perspective stress indicates that the body is in the 'fight-flight' response. Interestingly, it will be found that ANYONE with symptoms of insomnia, irritable bowel, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia etc will have an underlying state of stress in their body. Usually this has gone unnoticed as the focus has been on the symptoms of tiredness or pain.

As your symptoms reduce, you will go through the 'stress' layer and come out the other side into the 'parasympathetic' (relaxation) response. Thus we train our bodies to be relaxed and we train ourselves to live from this state.

If you are coming to the clinic to learn how to de-stress, you will learn exactly how stress is created in the body, and what it is in YOUR life that is creating YOUR symptoms. You will then be given a set of tools to put into practice so that your body no longer needs to create stress.

The good news is that:

  • You get to understand exactly what is going on inside your body
  • You get given your own personal set of tools to reduce stress
  • You get to be in control of your own health so that you no longer need to rely on others
